Committee to Protect Journalists • New York City
Website redesign
Summer 2013

The Committee to Protect Journalists is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide. CPJ ensures the free flow of news and commentary by taking action wherever journalists are attacked, imprisoned, killed, kidnapped, threatened, censored, or harassed.

project description

In collaboration with John Emerson and Arek Banasik, I worked on overhauling CPJ’s website. CPJ wanted a new website that would reflect a positive spin on their branding–moving away from the ‘darker’ tone of their then-current site; to better include visually compelling content including images, videos and data visualizations; to improve the user experience through more intuitive design elements; and to make social growth more likely by including more access points (share options.) They also needed the new site to be responsive, as they were seeing considerable growth in traffic from mobile and tablet users.

I was involved in talking to stakeholders about these objectives and possible features during the initial discovery period, as well as creating wireframes and design comps for multiple pages of the site across multiple mediums that were used as part of the final design.
